Tuesday 24th April to Friday 27th April. Continuing the Dinosaur Trail in Richmond.

We say goodbye to our gorgeous spot in Winton this morning, and head off to Hughenden for a look and a stop for lunch. More dinosaurs are there to greet us, and we pull up to the FJ Holden Cafe which unfortunately is closed for renovations...disappointing, we thought it looked fun! So we get Chinese instead.

The Flinders Highway from Hughenden to Richmond is interesting...glad it was only about 100km as I think everything in the van had bounced around a fair bit on that trip! Richmond van park is lovely, set on the top of a hill, overlooking a beautiful lake and bush-tucker garden. The best thing about it was the hot showers after 4 days of basin washes!

On Wednesday, Anzac Day, after catching up with the washing, we went into the Kronosaurus Korner Fossil Centre, where we were introduced to some amazing Marine Dinosaur Fossils found in the area, some complete skeletons which is pretty rare. In the afternoon, we were quite inspired, so decided to try our luck with our own fossil finding! There is a spot just out of town where you can look for yourself and keep what you find.  The kids got quite serious with shovels and hammers and after a couple of hours, we found a few shell fossils, fish parts and squid parts- nothing too amazing, but something to bring home from an ancient inland sea.

That afternoon, the kids had a play at the waterpark by the lake and we got chatting to a couple who pulled into the park with a viscount van older than ours! I know, hard to believe, but theirs is a 1969er! We were so excited to see them pull in and it was fun swapping travelling and renovating stories.

Thursday was spent catching up on some homeschooling bookwork and journals, while it rained outside. The temperature has dropped considerably, the wind is up and its wet, making me think of Melbourne. That concludes our Dinosaur Trail, it has been a great adventure! We head further west tomorrow, getting closer now to the next state border.
